Ежегодно 14 марта православными христианами России отмечается День православной книги. Праздник был установлен по инициативе и при поддержке Патриарха Московского и всея Руси Кирилла. Праздник молодой, проводится регулярно с 2010 года. День 14 марта определен историческим фактом.
В 1564 году в этот день на Руси вышла первая печатная книга «Апостол», изданная диаконом Иваном Федоровым, которого на Руси называют первопечатником. Это событие произошло в Москве на печатном дворе. Дата стала отправной точкой начала официального книгопечатания в России. Первые православные печатные книги явились основой для становления славянской и российской цивилизации.
День православной книги отмечается с целью привлечения общественного внимания к чтению духовно-нравственной литературы и вечным общечеловеческим традиционным ценностям, которые всегда объединяли и сплачивали российское многонациональное общество. Речь идет не только о православной книге, но и о художественной литературе, которая учит человека, как жить, помогая ему сохранить традиции и развиваться как личности.
К этому дню приурочено проведение книжных ярмарок, выставок, чтений духовной литературы, лекций по православной культуре, конференций, посвящённых истории книгопечатания на Руси, вопросам распространения православной литературы. Библиотека, являясь популяризатором книжной культуры, уделяет особое место Дню православной книги. Дмитренко Светлана Николаевна, библиотекарь 1-й категории библиотеки имени А.И. Куприна, провела этот день с детьми пятого класса в МБОУ «Школа №79». Встреча была названа «Память народа в книжной культуре».
Ученики узнали об истории праздника, рассказано о значении деятельности Ивана Федорова, прозвучал развернутый ответ на вопрос о роли православной литературы. Дети заинтересованно рассматривали книги с выставки «Свет православия».
Растение появляется из ростка, за которым бережно ухаживают. Так и встреча, проведенная с детьми, беседа с ними, желание раскрыть глубину и пользу книги явились первыми ростками для будущих мыслящих и нравственно воспитанных читателей и людей. Сегодня не меньше, чем в древности, люди нуждаются в написанном слове, которое знакомит их с мудростью, с опытом других людей и которое формирует духовный интеллектуальный мир.
